i have a simple 3 gallon fish bowl, and no pumps or filters or anything like that. What type of fish would live best in it besides betas? Ive had a few before, and they have done well, im just looking for something different. Im also looking for something fairly cheap and easy to find.

In the absence of a filter .... it's water change, water change, water change to keep anything healthy and water quality good.About 25% every other day.

Some of the fish suited to that small of an environment are smaller Killifish species (may be hard to find),Dario dario (takes a little looking),Medaka, and White Clouds. These fish can also get by without a heater (long as the tanks not dropping below 65F).
Small plants should be included... you'd probably prefer "easy cares" like Java Moss,Java Fern,or Anubias species that don't require excessive light. These will help somewhat with water quality, but are not substitutes for filters or water changes.

Fish cannot live in bowls, definitely not Goldfish, they get to a foot long and are very, very messy, and need a 20gal+ TANK. Contrary to popular belief, no matter what the fish, it will not live a happy, healthy life in a bowl. It will suffer ammonia poisoning, as the nitrogen cycle cannot be performed in a bowl. If you want tropical fish, get a 10gal, preferably bigger tank, with a heater and filter. You will have a much more rewarding and longer fish keeping experience, and your fish will appreciate it.

To maintain a happy and healthy fishtank, you should have a filter on there. This helps to clean the water, so the fish isn't constantly swimming in filth.

Beta's are the only ones I would suggest if you absolutely CANNOT have a filter, but I prefer all my fish to have filters and air supplies
