I am new to the acid reflux board, as this issue came up as a possible reason for my throat closing/ asthma like symptoms....

I have heard a lot of mention of vinegar for the symptoms of reflux, and some talk of having "the mother" in the vinegar....

Is this a special type of vinegar that is bought from health food stores? or is this cider vinegar bought from the grocery store? and how do you tell if it has "the mother" in it??

Thanks for any help...besides the vinegar is there a supplement that can help as well?

I use apple cider vinegar. I hear that it should not be pasteurized, but I am not sure
why that would be.....

Was wondering if I should look in the ingredient list to see if it had a certain product in it? or would it say pastuerized?

for anyone who knows this? thanks

I think we should clear this up right now. It doesn't matter at all which type of vinegar you use for acid reflux purposes. All vinegar contains acetic acid, the compound responsible for buffering stomach acid.

Unfiltered vinegar is said to contain "the mother" which is a collection of enzymes and bacteria that does have other health benefits, and contains many important minerals for health.

That aside, the mother doesn't have anything to do with acid reflux.
