I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0L inline 6 with an automatic transmission. Everywhere i look, I find that a 2000 Wrangler with autos had 3 speeds. in 04 or something, they changed to a 4 speed with overdrive in their automatics. Typically, when a transmission has overdrive, the D has a circle around it (or maybe thats just the vehicles i have been in). Now Im sure i have 4 speeds in my transmission, but that doesnt fit with what i have read. The Jeep shifts 3 times which means i have 4 speeds. to make sure i wasnt imagining it, i started off with the transmission in 1, then once the rpms were around 2k, i moved the shifter up to 2, it shifted into 2nd, i waited till i got up to 2200 rpm then put it in Drive (next in line after 2nd on my shifter) and it shifted again. I still steadily sped up and when the rpms got to 2200 again, it shifted. It went through 4 gears.
Can anyone explain this? I know quite a bit about my Jeep but I havent figured this one out. Im 99% sure that it has the stock transmission and everything.
