I am looking into getting a road bike, although, I am kind of on the fence. I have two options, either I get a vintage road bike for $50 or less, or I spend $500+ and get a decent one.
I recently found a 1985 Raleigh Team USA road bike for $50, that I am really considering. I would use it for getting between classes and other things, I am a little leary of leaving my specialized mountain bike outside by itself for a few hours.
If I were to get a decent road bike, I would probably consider something like a trek 1000, although, if I put down a decent amount of money on a road bike, I want one that I won't be looking to upgrade in a couple years. The thing is, if I get a decent road bike, I will be a little uncomfortable leaving it out on campus if I have a full day of classes and can't get back to it within several hours.
If I got a good road bike, I would use it on long rides 2-3 times a week, in comparison the vintage one would only be used when going to and from classes.
At the moment I am a college student, who does not have a job, but has a little bit saved up.
