What kind of paint do you think is best for a bike (road bike to be exact)?

I know there's always been a bit of arguing over using the ol' rattle cans to do the job versus taking it in to get done, but what brand/kinds have you had the most luck with? I've heard a lot of "Why not just drop the 75+ dollars to get it professionally done?" over time and it's getting old. Some of us can't afford the luxury, 'kay? It'd be really helpful if you lent some of your experience, thanks <3
