...Illinois? My husband and I were out in the garden (SW of Joliet, IL) and saw what appeared to be a passenger jetliner being escorted by 5 military jets. My husband thought it was air-force one, but, the President was publicly signing bills in DC at the time. I feared it was a terrorist thing happening. There were five fighter jets, two off each wing of the larger plane and one following behind. They were flying dangerously close and rather low (although if they were landing at Midway in Chicago, they were just a little low).
Would five jets indicate a ceremonial formation? Would the military be practicing a terrorist alert over a populated area? This was about midday on Tuesday, March 30th, 2010, so there were no Air Shows in the area. There was nothing on the news and nothing on the internet that we could find. Other incidents seem to warrant just 2 fighter jets. Why would there be five? Any ideas? Thank you for your time.
