What kind of lighting do I need to start my home-based photo studio?

I have a canon rebel, a 430EX speedlite flash, and a tripod. I will be mostly doing children's and family portraits and I want to get some good indoor lighting materials/kits. What do I need? There is way too much out there. What can I get to start with that won't break the bank, but will do the job?

get the flash off camera, add a reflector, thats all you need except off camera flash knowledge, try your local community college for that
