Im using a canon rebel XTi. I have been shooting outdoor photography for sometime now and I want to move into the indoor studio. Im planning to change one of my spare room into a studi but dont know where to start. I dont plan to spend alot of money on my set. I will be buying most of my equipments at a hardware store to cut down the cost. First off, what kind of light bulb do I need to light up a subject? I plan on having 3 diffrent light sources. I've heard that muslin is a good material to use as a backdrop. I also have a window in the room. Can I just buy any black cloth and cover the window or is there a specific material that can block out sunlight. Any help of setting up a studio with a low cost budget will be greatly appreciated!!

You can spend around $40 to $60 on 500 watt work lamps at your local Home Depot and have enough light to shoot any product or model in your home ... you will just have to put something in front of it to soften the light a little and shoot a colour chart to set your custom white balance for those lights and the diffusion screen you use.

You can buy raw muslin at Wal-Mart for under $7 a yard (4 yards is enough) and then dye it any colour you want. When shooting in my home studio, I always shoot at night. Otherwise I rent a studio for half a day.

You need a strong light bulb then soften it with an umbrella or cloth over it. Be careful about fire safety.

With creativity you can do anything you want, experiment, you'll be surprised how many cool effects you can create
