What kind of illness did my Betta fish have before she died?

My Betta was pregnant for a year and never had a chance to give birth because we didn't get her a male Betta. She was all healthy until one day she was all covered in bubbles and died. My other fish had the same decease and died too even though he was put in a different tank.
 
Those weren't bubbles. Its Ick. You should have added aquarium salt which kills ICK and other related fungi
