I am used to fishing with just a plane bobber and worm In my area of pa. I will be moving to north cali soon. And I was wondering What fishing is like there. Not the ocean But its streams. What kind of fish are there , were are good places. Is conventional fishing or fly fishing better. Thanks

Ha ha . . . the entire Northwest is FAMOUS for fishing of ALL kinds.

Lakes: Shasta to name just one, you can bottom-fish from a boat, troll, bank fish, the prizes are stocked rainbow trout. Small ball of Velveeta cheese on a #16 treble hook, let it sit on the bottom, relax.

In shallower water there are lots of catfish and bass.

Rivers and streams: rainbow trout, german browns, steelhead, salmon, although the rivers and streams are far trickier than lakes. Lots of work, your bobber and worm won't work in the rivers.

For steelies earthworms strung on a single hook will work, with enough weight to bounce along the bottom. Lures will also work for steelies, as well as trout.

For Salmon, a single hook with salmon roe, bouncing the bottom from the bank or boat is the best approach.

All fishing here is seasonal, meaning there are only certain times for certain species, both legally and when you will find them. Some lakes are year-round.

And fly fishing or catch and release both have their own class of places to fish and when to do them.

Lots to explore, if you're a fisherman you'll love it here.
