what kind of fish could I eat that would have the least impact on the environment?

I like tuna and salmon the best. I have heard that wild salmon is better than farm raised.

What kind of fish has an abundant supply that could allow a fraction of them being caught for dinner?

Wild fish are better than farmed fish, both for the environment and for taste.

As for which wild caught fish is best, who knows. Fisheries stocks are close to collapse worlwide, due to the ever increasing demand. If you really want to help the poor fish, go vegan.

I know, I don't like the idea any more than you do. But it is all we have.

Its not just the amount of fish in the sea/lakes its how they fish Many commercial fishing vessels practice bottom-trawling in order to catch sea animals who live near, on, or under the sea floor, such as flounder, cod, grouper, shrimp, and scallops. Scientists say that the destruction caused by bottom-trawling is similar to that caused by clear-cutting old forests, only on a far greater scale. Or marine life (such as sea turtles) are caught unintentionally.

Best to catch it yourself and eat it :)
