What kind of files am I to put into my CGI bin?

I am trying to learn web design but I am very confused on the upload process. I have a hosting company and I can upload my files but I am not sure where the index_files folder goes. The index file folder is filled with pages and pictuers, should I add any images to the CGI bin or is the CGI bin for something else?

Very confused so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
