What kind of doctor to see about a lump on my ribcage?

About a week ago I noticed a painless lump on my ribcage. After seeking advice from a friend in med school and a family member who is a nurse (long distance advice, unfortunately, so they couldn't examine it) I've decided to see a professional if it hasn't gone or at least gone down within 3 days.

I live in a slightly less than western country where I've had bad experiences with doctors before (dismissive, uninterested, unhelpful, etc) and the doctors here are also quite well known for not being up to par and often making mistakes, and so I'm very skeptical and I don't want to just go to any doctor.

What kind of doctor would one see about a lump? Not necessarily a lump in any particular area (I know there are special breast doctors who deal specifically with breast lumps and I'm sure those who deal with lymph-node type lumps), but just one perhaps in a field that would be familiar with the problem I'm presenting? I might also mention that I'm quite the hypochondriac and (even though I know I should steer clear) the internet and the fear that I may have some kind of cancer is driving me crazy.

Any advice or help at this time would be much appreciated.
