What kind of doctor do you see about hemorrhoids?

I am 23 years old and I have suffered from hemorrhoids for the past 4 years. I have not had insurance since 2006 but I just got insurance so I want to get it checked out. I have tried the wipes, the ointments, the cremes, the suppositories...some of it helps with the symptoms but nothing provides lasting relief. I am told that hemorrhoids do not usually last that long. So, I have a couple of questions:

1) What kind of doctor would I see about hemorrhoids?
2) If I go to a doctor, what can/will they do for it?

1. A general practitioner (ordinary family doctor) is the place to start. If it's a more complex issue he might refer to a proctologist (bottom doctor).
2. Depends. Could be creams, dietary advice, freezing, cutting off under local or in bad cases surgery may be required

A proctologist. And your information about how long they last is incorrect. I've had them for 42 years.
They can tie them off, which usually lasts a few years, or they can perform surgery.

You will have to go to a hemorrhoid specialist. lol, no just kidding. Any doctor should be able to help you. I think you can get them burnt off, but you would have to go into hospital for that. In which case, you would have to see a doctor first anyway. Otherwise, I would suggest to continue using the creams, and perhaps changing your diet to include more dietary fibre, so you don't strain when you go to the toilet, as this is what will cause them. A healthy diet high in fibre will mean you can go to the toilet easier and without straining, which should stop them coming back all the time.
