What kind of college can I get into?

You qualify for a "good" third-tier school.

On balance, I would not recommend attending community college unless you have serious financial reason to.

I just finished my junior year of high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 (I raised it to this from a 2.9 during the course of the year) , and I've taken the SAT once and scored a 1700. Overall these are pretty average results, so I'm wondering what my chances are of getting into a good four year college.

Would it be a good decision to apply to a junior college, and after two years transfer into a four year college?
By good college I'm talking about a four year state college. Not the ivy league by any stretch of the imagination, or even a private college. Just somewhere along the lines of the University of Washington.

Yeah, it might be a good idea, depending on how "good" you want your four year college to be. A 3.2 in high school with an upward trend across the years and a 1700 SAT would still earn you admission to many four year colleges, but not many of the "best."

If you do choose the community college + transfer path, know the facts. Visit the transfer counseling office, and double-check that a large percentage of the students who attend there either complete their Associate's degree and/or transfer to a four-year college (preferably both). The more people following your same intended path, the better your chances.
