what kind of car should i buy under $3,000?

Something american. A ford tempo would be nice. I have lasted 200,000 + miles. And is there are no tempos get a taurus. If not those get a GM vehicle.

But plz dont get a stupid toyota or Honda POS with a fart can.
 
can anyone give me information reguarding my purchase?
this is my first car, and i have saved up all the money myself, but im doing my homework before i buy one.
i want to buy a used car because i dont want to make monthly payments.

so what should i look for. can someone explain to me mileage and miles per gallon and what i should look for with those in mind? thanks
