I'm always trying to get my brother into reading, and when he was younger he was a lot easier to buy for. I could really just remember what I liked as a kid and he would usually like the same books, stuff like Wayside School, Hatchet, The Giver, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, and My Side of the Mountain (all from different grades/years/ages).
But he's growing up and I have no idea how to get him something he likes! He's always been a reluctant reader, but he watches a lot of educational-type television. Stuff like Dirty Jobs, Planet Earth, Modern Marvels, Future Weapons, anything on the military channel (his favorite films are military, and he's always wanted to go military when he graduates), and the like. He plays a lot of video games, too. I think his favorites are Call of Duty, US Navy Seals, Left For Dead, and the Grand Theft Auto series.
Any suggestions? I've had no luck with Lord of the Rings (too long? too wordy?), Harry Potter (too long again maybe?)... I'm not sure he would like anything based on a movie, since he could just watch the movie.
