first off, i am 6'1" and weigh about 280 pounds (just got done playing football) and i want to start riding a bike to help me lose weight (bad knees, so i don't want to run a lot). I was looking for a mountain bike because I thought that would be a little better to help support my weight, but I'm not sure what kind to buy. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, just something that I can ride. Probably not a lot of off-road travel, mostly streets. I would like to keep the price below $200 so if u have any specific bikes that would be good for me, please include prices if u can and maybe where i can get it.

thanks

Well, as you probably expected to hear, $200 isn't a lot of $. If you don't want to end up with a walmart brand, check out the used ones on Craigs List. With today's economy, there are some eager sellers out there. You may not find a Cannondale or Specialized in that price, but you might find a nice lower end Giant or Trek. Just look it over well, and go through the shifters, brakes, etc. Make sure it is plenty big for you or the discomfort will cause pain later. If you could throw another $150 on your budget, you could really buy a nice used bike such as an older Cannondale. I like to buy bikes that will hold their value better. Some vintage bikes are worth more than some of the newer stuff out there. Stay away from the department store stuff. Its cheap and will have a short life span. Hope that helps, good luck.
