What kind of bike do I need for riding around campus and maybe on trails?

I'm not looking to spend more than about $300. If that's unreasonable, just say so.

Also, any tips on how I can get rid of my old Walmart bike and still make some money...even if it's just a little?
 
Take a look at some of the Forge bikes like the Saranac and the M street bikes or the Vero, they run $250 pay attention to the height recomondations.
