My wife and I live on an acreage in Northern Alberta Canada and we have a large yard. We are looking to get a dog that can become part of our family, however, we do not live with dogs in our house. I have a heated garage that they can be in when it gets ridiculously cold, but other than that they have a 4'X8' dog house that is sealed, insulated and heated.
We were looking at getting an English Mastiff, but were unsure, we want a big dog (larger than a lab) and preferably not too shaggy a coat. Also, a dog that would be good for camping and just hanging out with us everywhere we go.
Any advice on what kind of dog would be good, and whether or not an English Mastiff would be suitable?
P.S. - For all those that think that I am evil because my dog does not live indoors, with respect, please don't waste your time giving me a lecture.

golden retriever. definitely. it may have a coat that's a little long, but they are great! o and u are not evil for keeping your dog outside. i think big dogs are happier that way, anyway.

well i think if get a dog it a part of the family and should be in the house...but if ur going to take good care of it i would go with alaskan Malamutes ...as u give the exercise it needs than i say goodluck to yea
