What kind (not brand) of oil should I use for a 1999 Jeep Cherokee?

I have 1999 Jeep Cherokee, 4.0L, about 60,000 miles. What kind of oil should I use (not brand)? I mean the type, like 10W-30, 5W-40, etc. Thanks.
Also I live near D.C. It shouldn't be getting below 40 degrees again until the Fall.
 
I have a 2001 grand cherokee with a 4.0 and 157000 miles,I use full synthetic,I was useing the synthetic blend,but I wanted the best for my jeep,I go 4500 miles between changes,and don't use any oil at all.It costs more,but I think it is worth it,if you want to keep your jeep a long time.
