I am very new at having fish and I am not very good at it apparently. First I purchased 2 fancy goldfish and 2 plecostomus, but a couple of days after I bought them I noticed that the goldfish had anchor worm, I returned them upon finding out that the store where I bought them had quarantined their tanks due to anchor worm. I did a parasite tablet treatment with a 25% water change and kept just the plecostomus for a week and then I did another 25% water change and another parasite tablet. We felt the tank was probably free of the anchor worm because the plocostomus didn't have any showing after a week and 2 treatments. We then bought 2 colored skirt tetra, 1 black skirt tetra, and three just regular 30 cent goldfish(not the feeders). Anyway...the same day we bought those, I noticed that the sucker(plecostomus) had ick, so we used a teaspoon of ick treatment(as directed) and added a tablespoon of aquarium salt( 1/2 of what was directed), anyway..the fish were thriving before bed yesterday after all of that, but I woke up to 3 dead goldfish. A couple of hours later the black skirt tetra was clearly in distress, at which point we did a 50% water change. The 2 color skirt tetras and the plecostomus are all fine now, about 11 hours later. Also..my water is usually at about 78-79 degrees.(no temperature control, just the temp of home) So....my question..what killed the 3 very tough looking goldfish and the black skirt tetra? I am not good at this yet and baffled?
