...My mother in law for instance ..? ...is in a tough situation. Her husband just died the other day, so she is now a widow, They adopted 3 of their grandkids bcs the parents were on drugs an then 3 more kids who they were foster parents for are now adopted. Then he up and dies leaving her a widow with 6 kids ages 4 on up to 16. We are helping out as well as the rest of the family but do you have any ideas on how they could make some extra income? What is working for you. It would have to be a workable work from home type of deal. any help would be appreciated.

The 16 year old can probably get a job or make his own gig doing odd jobs in the neighborhood... he could also check into some "ear while you learn" vocational programs while at school. He only has 2 years until graduation, so he might as well start doing stuff like that.

Does your MIL have any special recipes she could make and sell to local delicatessens and restaurants? For example, a cheesecake made with stevia, inulin, agave nectar, xylitol instead of refined sugars... ideal for diabetics. She would need a license and a wholesale tax permit. The younger kids could pitch in and help.
Basically, she needs to look at her options and resources and get creative.

She could talk to the local assistance ministries to get help with utilities. She could probably qualify for assistance from the state. She could also probably file to receive Social Security, since she is a widow and the kids need support.

Well I know that sometimes people can get income for taking care of children that are not their own. Other than that, you just have to keep looking online for home jobs, keep looking and I hope everything works out.

They should contact their county's Family and Children's service and apply for all benefits to which they are entitled.

If they belong to a church they should confide their needs to the pastor.

They should contact their power company for discounted bills. I know our local company rounds our bills off to next higher cents for this fund. They do wonderful work and help so many in need.

Shop Salvation Army for clothing and other needs, toys, etc.

I pray for all those who are being forgotten while the government spends billions bailing out Wall Street.
