I don't believe he will be in Denver unless he agrees to an extension before the trading deadline. Denver is not going to risk him walking away to another team in the offseason and getting virtually nothing.
I think that if the Knicks are reluctant to trade him I believe he will be a Net but the Nets will probably offer alot less than their original deal if he is unwilling to sign an extension before the trade. However, considering Nets have stunk I think that if they could get him they will probably do since he is alot better than Harris and Lopez.
I think final deal will be that Denver receives Favors, D. Harris (who will be traded to another team for a legit SF and/first round pick along with an expiring deal), Nets 2 first round picks this year, Troy Murphy and that Carmelo and potentially another Denver player like Nene will end up in the Nets.
I think it will then be up to the Nets to try resign him before the offseason. They will have an advantage of being able to offer Melo the most money since a new CBA is expected to reduce player salaries dramatically after the lockout.
