It's fine for about 15 minutes while im driving it but then it starts to gradually heat up. My friend told me to turn on the heater and when I do the thermometer goes back down to normal... it sucks cause i have to put my windows down and have the car extremely hot to get to long distances.
It did the same thing last summer and then when it got closer to winter it just kinda stopped. Is this something I should worry about? Is there a simple way to fix this on my own? I'm no mechanic, but I can be pretty handy. I just dont want to take it to a mechanic and they charge me a hundered and fifty bucks just to change a belt. So what could be wrong with my protege, its a year 2000 if that helps. I've checked my coolant and it is full, the oil isn't a problem. And the belt screaches sometimes but i got that changed a while back... the fan belt i think. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.
