What is wrong with my Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I decided to cross this little creek in my 1995 V8 jeep grand cheroke. It was about 15 feet of 1.5-2.5 foot deep water. I went through it going pretty fast and about halfway through the car died. It did manage to make it out of the water fully before coming to a stop though...it will not start...just makes a clunk noise when I turn the key. I pulled the air filter out and it is pretty wet. Another weird thing is that my oil level is like double what it should be ( I just bought this car so I dont know if it was filled like that to begin with but I doubt it). The oil does not look like it has been mixxed with water.

That should be alll the info I have. Any response helps. Personal experience with a same situation maby? Anyone know roughly what it might cost to fix???

sounds like water ingestion... if you did suck water into the air intake, you probably did serious damage. flooded cars survive only when they are in a flood and are not running. i those cases, fluid changes take care of the problem, but since yours was running, you might be looking at engine rebuild or replacement. this is why off-roaders use snorkels on their vehicles.
 
2.5 feet should be no problem for the Cherokee, the problem is you went too fast so the water could have splashed everywhere. The ignition, the air intake, who knows. The reason as to why your oil level is high is likely you ingested some water in your cylinders, the water has nowhere to go, it will either bend the connecting rods or blow out the piston rings either way it will end up in the crankcase along with your oil, you have a serious problem now.
 
sounds like you sucked water into the engine not good you killed the engine sorry for the news and I doubt the seller will cover this under warranty
 
Well, it seems like your engine ingested a bunch of water. If so, the engine is likely blown from hydrolock. Drain the oil, you should be able to tell if that extra capacity is water. It might be harder to tell on a dipstick. Best idea would probably be just getting a used engine.

Could be something else, wet ignition? I would drain and fill everything, trans, differentials, transfer case.
 
Well there was nothing wrong with the jeep. There is how ever a loose nut behind the wheel. Congratulations you killed the jeep. It is not a boat.
