What is wrong with my honda? (I drive a '00 prelude, H22A4 motor, 2.2L DOHC VTEC...

...5spd; NOT AN SH)? I believe the clutch has gone bad. I have plenty of fluid in it. When I depress the pedal, I get pressure in it exactly as I should. When I move the shifter, it goes into gear exactly as it should. When I release the pedal and depress the accelerator, nothing happens. The car will not move. I can, quite literally, put the car in gear and take my feet off the pedals and it will just sit there, stationary, running. In the week or so leading up to my dilemma; I had begun to smell what I have learned is the odor of a burnt clutch. Also, in this week, I would be driving the car and it worked well, but (starting most noticeably in 4th gear), if I depressed the pedal to the floor quickly and really tried to get on it and floor it, the car would just rev as if it were in neutral. As I released the pedal and the RPM's decreased, the car would seemingly slide into gear and start accelerating. I could drive the vehicle relatively normally without really accelerating abruptly for about a week, so long as I didn't stomp the accelerator, it drove exactly as it should. But as the week progressed, I was having to accelerate slower and slower; and the transmission seemed to slip out of gear easier and easier. Now, as I said, I am literally at a standstill; with the shifter in gear and no motion in the ocean. Even from a dead stop, I can put the car in first and stand outside; watching it run standing still in first gear with no pedal depressed. The RPM's don't dip or rise without my pushing the pedal, but even when I do the car stands still. What is it that I need to do? I am completely clueless.

To whomever answers my question:
Please include instructions with as much detail as possible, I can handle a wrench, but a transmission is no place for guesswork.
If it is not my clutch that needs replacing, what might it be?
Exactly how complicated a process is replacing this part; do I need an extra set of hands, what kind of tools are required, etc......
About how much does an operation like this cost... DIY as opposed to shop?
What are your qualifications? What make your answer credible? (I've gotten a pretty wide variety of answers to questions here, so I need to know who to listen to)

Thanks so much for taking your time to answer this carefully; this isn't some project car I can afford to f*** up, this is my daily driver and needs to run properly. I appreciate your time and effort.:)
