What is wrong with my gag reflexes?

i wake up in the middle of the night gagging, and nothing comes out but saliva..and it never happens during the day only when i wake up in the middle of the night...it doesn't happen every night only random nights..does anyone know what it is? i used to take prilosec otc and but it didn't work
