What is wrong with my fish?

So i've had this fish for about 5 months! He seems to be staying at the top of his bowl and he is not belly up nd swimming so hes still alive! But his phin is become a brown and he has a brown spot on his back. What could be wrong with my fish?
He is a betta fish....Is their anyway hes going to be able to live?
If i buy this tank for my fish Could he possibly live?
 
Don't be impressed that your fish has managed to survive terrible conditions for five whole months- Be ashamed that he has had to live this way. Your fish is suffering from severe ammonia poisoning/burns or possibly some kind of infection.

Please tell us what kind of fish you have so that we can tell you how to care for him properly.

~Please purchase your betta about a five gallon aquarium with a gentle filter, and an aquarium heater to maintain the temperature between 77F-82F.
-The proper temperature and good water quality will do a world of good.
