My Ranger is a 2.3L I-4 dual spark engine and has no tachometer.
Info on the scenario-
The same day that the truck died I moved it to let someone out of a parking spot and heard a clicking sound like it was out of time, but was running fine. When I started home I made it a 2-3 miles down the road and was cruising around 60 down a back road when the truck died without warning, almost as if it was out of gas. When adding gas didn't work I replaced the fuel pump and filter. When that didn't work I checked at the check valve to make sure I was getting gas to the engine and I was.
I then checked for spark, which I had as well. The problem was I was not getting a spark signal.
Questions-
1. What sends the signal to the spark plugs to spark? (I belief that it is the Crank Shaft Positioning sensor, the Cam Shaft Positioning sensor, and the main computer all working together but I'm not sure)
2. Where would I fine the sensors?
3. Are there any other possible problems I maybe over looking?
I could really use any help and advice you are willing to give. Thank you for your time.
It died as if it ran out of gas not as if I blew the engine. If its not the spark, and I have gas at the check valve what are the possible problems?
I forgot to add that it does turn over.
By "Cam belt" are you referring to the timing belt?
