shall we just fo away with legal marriage so that everyone can make this claim of convenience?
personally, i think its often just a ploy for claiming ignorance when two people want to file their taxes under "married" status.
otherwise how many "common law" spouses do you think will take half of the others debt on their way out the door?
I have seen upwards of 15-20 Q's about this in the last week or so. it seems to be all the rage.

hi not sure if you were directing this question because of my question earlier.. i have just heard people saying things about common law marriage and his parents have made statements saying that since we've lived together we'd be married by common law.. im still not even sure what common law really is..

Seriously there are issues about the "marriage License" as apposed to the "Common Law" right to marry by contract. Be fore 1917-1919 (There abouts) there was no such thing as a marriage license.
legally defined, a "license" is permission to do that which would other wise be illegal to do.
When was it ever illegal to marry?
In the Bible we are commanded to "be fruitful and multiply" in other words, commanded to marry.
Now Ministers who perform the Marriage ceremony with the License always says " By the power invested in me by the State of California (for exemple)"
Huh? The power of the State? Where is God?
Many people have issues with this and will not ask "The State for permission to marry"
Another thing: In a divorce court what is exhibit A?
It is the Marriage License. You see, that License is also a contract with the State as a Third party interest!
Why do you think the judge always says who gets what in a divorce?
because the State has the controlling interest in your Marriage..including the Children.

Well I don't concern myself with what others do. I could care less if they want to play house for 10+ years or file their taxes under "married" status. I assume some people are content with their living arrangements & don't think it's necessary to get married. I don't know what their reasons are and frankly don't care because some people that do get married don't take their vows serious.
