What is too much to pay for a mountain bike?

I'm in the market for a new mountain bike and see good ones starting at $1000. However, I found a "boutique" mountain bike by a company called Intense and the bike was much nicer than the others. However, it was $3600. Am I nuts to spend that much for a bicycle?
