Voicing his aversion to welfare, FDR asserted that work fostered "self respect, self reliance and courage and determination." Considering the work available to and performed by men, women, African Americans, and Parchman inmates from 1940-1963 do you agree or disagree with FDR statement?

I agree. The Civilian Conservation Corps FDR put together built a lot of the facilities in National Parks and National Forests. People worked and didn't just get a hand out from the government. Worked very well.

I wish we had something like that these days. We have a lot of people on the disability rolls who could be working.

whats hard to understand? would you rather be proud to be working and doing for yourself, or buying into the idea of gov't taking care of you from the cradle to the grave, and owning your body and soul? the ones that buy into it, are one generation after another in the same family who don't want to work, and are happy to exist on what they are given (for free).
what they fail to understand is, EVERYTHING HAS A PRICE.
