For about two months i have had a pain right under my breastbone. I started with some heartburn so I started Prilisec, took it for 14 days as directed. They heartburn stopped but the pain did not. I saw my dr. and she ordered some heart tests to rule out heart issues. Everything came back normal, thank Goodness. She told me to continue with the Prilisec so i am back on it and again no heartburn but still the pain. I am seeing her for a follow up next week. Sometimes the pain does go up between my shoulder blades. I have read that is reflux. I don't seem to have the regular symptoms for acid reflux. Are everyone symptoms different?? It seems to come and go but when i have it, it is very uncomfortable. Any comments? thanks bride527

Well, as far as treatment goes, they usually start w/ antibiotics. I had to have 3 different antiobiotics that I took 4x's a day for two weeks. It is very hard to get rid of. It took me four times doing the antiobiotic treatment before I got rid of it! It was very frustrating! So many people have it and don't even know it. Most people don't have any symptoms w/ it. I hope for your sake that it comes back negative!! Good luck!;)

Ive posted on this board for yrs about a pain that starts on my right side under my breast right where it meets the ribcage.Alot of times it radiates to the back, and settles in my shoulderblade. It sometimes accompanies the reflux, sometimes not.Look in a search engine for esophageal spasms, see if the symptoms sound familar.Take care.

Hi,
I had similar symptoms, including the pain in the shoulder blades, when I had problems with my gallbladder. I had it out on 6-26-08, and no longer have the symptoms you describe. (Still have heartburn/reflux though.) If I were you, I would have your doctor examine your abdomen (Probably will anyway.) When I had the symptoms you describe, I also had severe nausea, and pain on the lower right of my abdomen when the doctor pressed on it during the abdominal exam. She then ordered an ultrasound first, then a specialized test called a hidascan which measures the level of functioning of your gallbladder specifically. Mine was barely functioning which my doctor said can cause these types of symptoms. Good luck at your appointment next week.

I hope i don't have it either but i am looking for answers. I hope it comes back negative.

I had my Endoscope almost two weeks ago and have a follow up this thursday. Would they call me if i tested postive for H pylori or something worse (God forbid)...Or do they just tell you when you go for your follow up checkup. I would think if i had it i would need to go on meRAB right away. Maybe no call is good news.. comments? bride5527

I had my Edoscope this morning......Dr. said everything looked fine. so now what? She took a biopsy and wants me to see her in two weeks for the follow up. I seemed surprised when she mentioned biopsy but she said all looks good. Do they usually take biospies when there in there looking around. Glad it is over with but still wondering why this pain??? any comments bride527

Hi bride! So sorry you are feeling bad. Join the club. The symptoms can be different on each person. I will tell that mine have moved around.

Sometimes I have pain between the should blades,, sometimes pain between my breasts by the sternum that radiates through the chest, sometimes little pains in my stomach, but mostly MUCUS in my throat that I can't clear! It makes me feel like my throat is closing, like I have slight breathing trouble...and when it really has come up into my throat I will get a canker sore or two on the back of my throat or tongue.

Today was rough because I just started on the Zantac. I had gone without anything for a few days. I had alot of mucus today and trouble getting a big breath in...and sores in my mouth.

What are your main symptoms?

My dr. checked my abdomen at my last visit a month ago.. She gave me a complete exam and then ordered the Echo stress test cuz i was complaining of the pain in my chest. All is normal on that.
My main symptom is a pain under my breastbone and lately into my shoulder blades. I was having heartburn but she put me on prilisec for that....heartburn is gone....pain is not.
As far as gall bladder i don't have any pain on my right or left side. so i don't think it is that. I am a healthy 56 year old women with no health issues except for this pain now. I feel fine other than that. No nausea, no stomach issues. hmmmmm.

The pain you describe (along with heartburn) is a common symptom of acid reflux, and is often caused by an area in your esophagus or upper digestive tract that has been irritated by acid from your stomach. Typically the heartburn subsides quickly when you start taking Prilosec but it can take 8 weeks or more of daily Prilosec to heal areas that have been irritated by the acid.

Your best bet is to stick with the Prilosec and try to avoid fooRAB that irritate acid reflux (alcohol, chocolate, tomato-based sauces, spicy fooRAB) and give your body a chance to heal.

I always think no news is good news. When I had my endoscopy 2.5 years ago, the dr. said he would call me either way, and he did---48 hours later at 7:30 am in the morning! When I heard his voice, my heart stopped beating b/c I figured something was wrong for him to call me so soon...but it was fine! I live in Canada so I know things are done differently everywhere. I just had an UPPER GI and ultrasound last Friday and they said it would be a week and my family dr. called me today--again, I stopped breathing when I heard his voice---but again, everything was normal! PHEW!

I know when I was tested for H . pylori, on the one hand I didn't want it, but on the other hand, when you read about everyone's problems with this reflux and treating it, in hinRABight, I think I would have rather had something that they can generally do something about! I don't ever want a BAD result but I would like something that can be cured!!!! YOu have to remeraber too, that for everyone that has difficulty with treatments, probably 90% of people don't--they are the ones that are NOT on this board!

If they booked you for follow up, that is how they must do it, but I would suspect if there was something serious, they would have gotten you in sooner! STAY POSITIVE~

I wanted to share my good news with everyone. I started this post a while back when my symptoms started. The support I gained has been such a comfort to me.
I went for my follow up today from the Endoscope test two weeks ago...All is NORMAL.....however she said i have mild reflux.....no biggy. She wants me to continue the prilesec for another 6 weeks and said i will heal......I have been feeling alot better lately. The pain is actually a lot less and of course no heartburn with the meRAB. I am so relieved that I finally have an answer. I wish i had the Endoscope right from the beginning instead of second guessing every symptom. Good luck to all and I thank you for the support. Hopefully this will heal and i we be back to my old self soon. feel better already!! bride527

I had an endoscope for similiar reasons back in Septeraber and a biopsy was taken from me as well. I was informed this was normal. In October 07 I had my gallbladder removed then the pain in the right side that radiated through to shoulder and around to back began. I have learned that I have an excessive amount of bile leaking into my stomach, h-pylori, and gastroparesis. Hopefully the biopsy will be benificial to you.

I called and made the appt. for the follow up and asked why the biopsy . they said it is normal with Upper Endoscopes. that they check for H-Pylori. I got nervous when she said biopsy. i was thinking cancer (OMG) but she said not with Upper Endoscopes. If it is positive what is the form of treatment for that?. just curious. bride527
