What is this "internet" thing, and can I buy it in bulk?

So, say I want to buy an internet. What is an internet first of all? Would it be cheaper to purchase a few internets at once (i.e. in bulk)? How are internets sold? Are they packaged in those annoying plastic cases that are impossible to open even with scissors? Are they sold in volumetric containers, and does one just pour an internet into some crevice of their computer?

Please help, I'm clueless.
