Okay. It's about-
This boy named Paul, his dad calls him "Paulie" is taken by the military, along with his dad, because they witness a space ship, the government recover it and find a dead alien inside. Paulie is asked fly it because he is the only one who can fit into it. They are not allowed to have contact with ANYONE- including Paulie's mom. While he is flying it, another alien attempts to tractorbeam the ship Paulie's in up into the sky, but the military interferes and saves him..
Then later into the book he starts having visions about an OLD time place, like.. colonel (sp?) times and meets a girl in these visions. When the government are trying to find a fort for some reason, and he helps them find a triangle shaped fort and cannons along a river of some sort because of these visions, he knows EXACTLY where everything was/is and helps them find it because he saw the fort and cannons in the visions he had.
The cover art is of a teenage boy in a pilots jacket in front of a plane and hes giving a thumbs up with both hands. He has short, blonde colored hair and is wearing jeans and sneakers as well as the pilot's jacket.

I got a signed copy of the book a few years ago.. Ill say 3 years ago and then that book was relatively new because the author JUST got it published, and he was friends with my teacher.
Also the main color of the cover art is a blue/white/light blue border around the actual photo of the boy and the plane.
