I remember reading this book a long time ago... here are some things that I remember:
4 or 5 people went to a fair and bought these envelopes that were sealed with red wax. when they put their fingers on the wax and made a wish, it would come true. One girl wished that the boy she liked would make roots in the town. He ended up turning into a tree. One boy wished that he wouldn't have to go fetch water from the well everyday. His farm almost flooded. And one girl wished to get more attention and started croaking like a frog. There was 1 other but I forget. Finally the narrator is confronted by the kids at the end and wishes to make things as though they had never gotten the envelopes.
