What is the U.S. Army procedure for alerting ASOC and requesting an air

strike in an urban environment? I am crafting a scenario which is both fictional and which, in an extraordinary sort of way, must also be credible. An light assault on a residential neighborhood in Tikrit, Iraq becomes inescapable, and the remaining member of a strike team (Lieutenant) needs to contact the Air Support Operations Center and order (or is it request?) an airstrike. How would this intangible soldier go about such a thing? Is proof of 'need' required, is rank an issue, is location an issue? Could a fellow cite some extenuating circumstance to be allowed a strike if normally he'd be denied, such as eradication of possible non-chemical WMD--and who approves that request (if I'm making any sense at all)?

Thanks so much.
