It is a suspense/thriller and we think the name Michael as the author,strikes a bell. But I know it is NOT Michael Crichton. The prologue involves a Spanish monk part of Cortez's group and the monk gave up his cross as a clue for the future discovery. Anyway, it has to do with a lady scuba diving near a ship wreckage where she disturbs a resting disease or something and gets the disease. I also remember something about a goldish substance (liquid) that healed people and kept the disease at bay. There is an indigenous tribe that had no young for some reason and the only way to reach them was through a tunnel undergroud. It was an abandoned village with undead creatures/strong people who didn't like light (they lived in the dark underground). ok, i know this is really really vague. But it is kind of a mixed memory between my sister and i (we don't always agree) But WE DO agree it was epic. If we are accidentally mixing plot lines of two different books, please tell us both titles, or the author... PLease please please! And thanks from both of us!
