what is the title and Author of this book?

I had briefly heard of a book about a man that lives his life and writes a daily journal. He for some reason burries the journal, and then years later someone finds it, and it becomes the "new bible" and people live by the words in his journal.

I may be wrong, but this is something that someone told me about once, i would like to know what the title and author of the book is.
