What is the style of art called that combines anatomy with mechanical features?

It's a style of art that is sometimes used to create cyborgs or other creatures with both a compliment of fleshy parts as well as robotic appendages. It's sometimes dark. Very popular recently in flash art. But it got its start... I think with some animation. I could be wrong. I just can't remember what its called.
