What is the significance of tucking your chin in when assuming correct posture?

Okay, so I have had bad posture all my life. I am 19 now and never knew I had bad posture until last year. I found out when I saw my self on video for a school project. And since then I have done my best to correct my shoulders, pulling my chest up, and balancing my weight on my feet. So far it's been getting better. I have less back pains, and I feel more confident.

However, I never really tucked my chin in because it felt unnatural. It felt so tense that I just stopped trying. I know that's wrong, but I feel it isn't really a necessity. But then on the other hand, I think I have breathing problems.

My question is, what is the significance of tucking your chin in when assuming correct posture?
