My guess is he got to go back home to his bed. That basket cannot be to comfy.
In reality none of the characters ever left. The Tin Man, Scarecrow, And Lion were the farm hands. Dorothy was hit in the head and knocked unconscious by flying debris from the twister. Oz and everything in it was just her dream.
