How did he think the role of the law was perverted by the Christians who insisted that Gentiles had to keep the law before being admitted into the Christian church?

He taught that Christ death and resurrection made the law complete. Romans 7 he uses the analogy that when the woman's husband dies she is no longer under his rule but under her "new" husband. This is like Christ's death, he died to the law and now he came back and we are no longer under the old law. So now it is by grace through faith. Christ was the substitutionary death, he died so we dont have to, for the wages of sin are death.

It was just to use the law like a mirror to show ones sin and they have to now go to Christ to be cleansed of their sin

First of all, the ones who perverted the law were not Christians. They were false teachers. He said foolish Galatians who has bewitched you. And actually the law was not perverted as much as the free gospel of Christ was manipulated by these false teachers to bring the new believers into the bondage of the old covenant. Instead of living in the new covenant of Christ.
