more shallow values and mental? pathology? If you look at movies from 10 years ago or more, you fidn more originality, depth, variety and geniune human emotion. That is why they are called classics. Yet why is the current trend of the media headed towards a mold where there are shallowness of emotions, no originality, and desensitization towards subjects previousyl viewed as abhorrent and bad? And why is the term "keeping up with the times" or being "up to date", "trendy", "progression" or "advancement" equated with the downward pattern of less moral integrity?
Maybe to phrase it in better terms, "what is the cause for this trend"?
And does the media and the general population have a reciprocal influence?

The media has a "populist" mentality of giving the people what they want. This way the media could sell advertising and stay in business.
