What is the reason some people wish to remain timid and fearful...even if it means leading a life as a doormat?

Here my target is educated, independent people who choose a path of least resistance and surrender without a fight....and are ready to suffer losses...be it of finances or self-respect!

How can they be enthused to look after their own interests?

Ideas?!?
