here's another possible way to find out...
assuming its not a posi rearend, jack up one side of the rearend so one tire is off the ground. spin the wheel until the pinion is where you can remember its position and place a chalk mark on it. now take the chalkstick and put a mark on the tire and correspondingly on the ground. now spin the tire counting how many times the pinion turns completely until the tire mark comes back around to meet the ground mark.

ex: 2 3/4 pinion turns means 2:73
ex: just a snich over 3 pinion turns means 3:08
ex: just a snitch under 3 1/2 pinion turns means 3:42
ex: 3 3/4 pinion turns means 3:73
ex: just a snitch over 4 pinion turns means 4:11

those are the most plausable for your vehicle.

if its a posi, same senario just make sure both wheels are off the ground, with a block blocking the vehicle's front tires from moving backwards or forwards for safety, and the trans in neutral.

lastly, look inside the glovebox, there is a large tag in there that gives vehicle info, color, etc...it will also give rearend gear...if tag hasn't been removed or rearend changed by someone else.

good luck and GOD bless.
