What is the problem with my A/C on my 1998 Toyota 4Runner?

I have asked this question, two times, over the last two weeks, but have not yet received a correct answer.

My A/C will blow ice cold for about 30-45 minutes, after the initial start in the morning. The rest of the day, it is only warm air.

It has done this the last three weeks. Before that, it was blowing cold about 4 out of every 5 days, before it worsened. Before that, it always did great.

The compressor, obviously, is working. There seems to be ample refrigerant to make it blow cold for 30-45 minutes, but then it simply stops working.

I need to know if there is something more involved, like a relay, bypass, etc....that I am not aware of.

I tried filling it with a can from the auto store, but it did not really make a difference, and the gauge reads low on refrigerant.

Is it possible that it could have enough refrigerant to blow cold for that long, but just need a recharge.

It is 12 years old, so maybe that is the life span of the refrigerant from the factory.

Please help, as I do not have the funds to go diagnose or spend money guessing.

Thanks!

look under hood when it starts blowing warm . are your lines on the low pressure side iced over?(the larger of the two hoses to compress er)if so you may be low on refrigerant. or you may have n.c.g. in lines that need to be evacuated &vacuumed.
