I have been searching without any luck for a series of books for young children (probably 7-10; I remember pictures more than text) in which each book is about a different mythological creature. There were probably a dozen or fewer books in the series. I do not remember anything of the title or the author. They were published no later than the early 1990s. I remember in particular a griffin, perhaps a green griffin. I remember a black cat as well, and maybe a dragon, I believe. I do realize that this description is vague, but any help would be much appreciated. These mystery books have been bugging me for quite some time.
