...hunt that ends in a war? the book is set in Africa and the ex Boar war veteran guides a rich sick old man and his daughter across Africa, hunting a big elephant. as the elephant crosses a border they pursue and end up caught in a war. the big elephant kills the rich old man and they die together, while the soldier falls in love with the daughter. The daughter is caught by a rebel army and the soldier has to fight his way to rescue her. In exchange for her release the man must help capture some Russian helicopters for the warlord and the end of the book end in a big battle.
i also remember the soldier has a couple of native trackers who help, one is killed and one is amazing at remaining undetected, and often scouts the enemy rebels well.
the leader of the enemy rebels is the soldiers enemy from back in the boar war battles.
the first half of the book is the group tracking an impressive elephant across Africa, and from there the book transcends into the hunter having to rescue his love interest from the rebel army.
Please help me remember this book, as it is bugging me!
